Christos Glynos

BioPur Inc. was first established in 2006 through the combined efforts of Mr. Christos Glynos and Mr. George Linardos Sr. With the help of local officials and the blessing of the community they set out to create a company that would both serve the nation and its farmers with a clean renewable energy source. A former dairy farm, purchased by Glynos, BioPur Inc. was started in 2005 as a way to offset costs of raising pure bred Boer goats in Bethlehem, CT. An entrepreneur at heart, Chris owns several businesses including a local landmark, The Painted Pony Restaurant.

Originally based out of a single garage, Glynos and Linardos joined forces to create something bigger than themselves. They each brought their own personal backgrounds to the table. Mr. Glynos found that his knowledge of the agriculture and restaurant industries added greatly to their endeavor. Mr. Linardos built off of this with his own structured expertise of industrial production, from over 40 years on the job. Together these men were able to start a company that exceeded expectations and became the first and only profitable biodiesel production facility in the state of Connecticut.

BioPur can produce 1.5 million gallons of feedstock per year in its batch processing configuration. BioPur is a licensed blender and produces ASTM D 6751 biodiesel, and each batch undergoes full quality-testing by an independent third-party laboratory. The company complies with all space requirements, permitting and environmental requirements for operations at the current location.

BioPur Light & Power, Inc., is the next step in the long term plan Chris has for BioPur. Using the same processes that have made BioPur biodiesel so successful, the BioPur Light & Power endeavor will produce clean electric power for the CL&P grid and serve as a test case for future biodiesel plants nationwide. 

Chris recently completed the construction of a composting facility that will use co-products from the farm and the biodiesel manufacturing process to produce nutrient rich potting soil. Another venture, RVO, Inc., has plans to open a facility in nearby Waterbury to collect and process recyclable oils for use in producing biodiesel.

BioPur is a recipient of federal grants from the US Department of Energy through the Greater New Haven Clean Cities Coalition to complete and integrated technology system, deploy the system to produce electricity for facility use and sale to the grid. Additionally, the project, BioWatz, will produce data useful for propagating biodiesel in electrical power generating applications.    The state-of-the-art monitoring systems included in the installation will provide real- time, Internet-accessible data useful for monitoring generator production, power consumption, feedstock performance and environmental efficiencies.
